How to Decalcify and Take Care of the Pineal Gland

Decalcifying your pineal gland

The pineal gland (which some people pronounce as ‘PINneal’, others as ’puhNEEL’) is a tiny gland the size of a pea and shaped like a pine cone, located in the very center of our head at the top of the brainstem. The pineal gland is part of the most ancient part of our brain, which we share with almost all vertebrates. It produces melatonin, along with the closely-related chemical DMT during crucial times like when we are born, when we die or in near-death experiences (NDE's), in deep meditation, awakening experiences, and perhaps also during certain times in direct exposure to sunlight (as in Barbara Ehrenreich's experience as described in "Living with a Wild God", as well as sun-gazing meditations although we obviously need to be careful to not damage our eyes).


The pineal gland is sometimes called the 'third eye' energy center, and is often associated with creativity, intuition, inner sight, visions, and direct spiritual experiences, but these associations aren't a matter of superstition or blind belief. Once we understand how the pineal gland works, it starts to make sense how this physical gland is connected with many kinds of spiritual experiences.


The key challenge we face with the pineal gland is that it gets covered over by calcium deposits in around 60% of adults, due to fluoride and other chemicals in our modern world. While a calcified pineal gland can still function in a basic way to produce melatonin, it doesn't seem to be able to produce as much DMT, or enable the wide range of spiritual experiences that can happen if our pineal gland is fully functional.


The good news is that there's a simple way to use sound vibration to help flake off these calcium deposits, so our pineal gland can work fully again. After I used this technique for the first time in 2014, when I laid down to go to sleep that night I heard a 'tink' sound inside my head as the calcium deposits flaked off. Over the next several days, I had a strong increase in my creativity and leaps of insight, I started seeing patterns of lights and colors with my eyes closed (see below for more about why this happens), and two weeks later I had my main awakening experience.


Very soon after decalcifying my pineal gland, I also had a strong feeling that I was suddenly connected with something very sacred. Different people may have different ways of understanding the experience, but even though I had been an atheist and agnostic for many years, I suddenly said to myself, "Oh, God, that's where you are! I didn't notice you before." Others might think of this as a feeling of Oneness, of connection with Spirit, with the Tree of Life, or with Everything, so this practice doesn't require any particular worldview or belief system.


More about the pineal gland and spiritual experiences


Many of the spiritual experiences connected with the pineal gland can be explained by its physical structure. One key point is that the pineal gland contains microscopic magnetic crystals made of calcium, carbon, and trace minerals. Because they respond to magnetic fields, the pineal gland can act like a radio receiver, allowing us to pick up faint electromagnetic fields from outside ourselves, such as when we pick up 'vibes' from other people, and many kinds of visionary experiences.


The second key point about the pineal gland is that it is connected to the Optic Nerve, which in turn is connected with the visual processing centers in the brain. This isn't a coincidence, because for the pineal gland to produce melatonin to regulate the sleep cycle, it needs to know if it's currently daylight or not. (In some species of fish, lizards, and amphibians, the pineal gland still functions as a third eye.)


If the pineal gland is decalcified, it seems to be able to receive electromagnetic signals from outside ourselves, and pass these signals along the Optic Nerve, so they get turned into images by the visual processing centers in the brain. This explains why many people see patterns of light and color with our eyes closed, especially during deep spiritual experiences. When people talk about 'seeing the light', it's not always just a metaphor!


Overview of the decalcification process:

While each of us has a pineal gland and deserves to have it fully functional, please note that decalcification is a powerful process, and is not to be taken lightly. It can open us up to a whole new set of sensory input that we weren’t receiving before (intuitive thoughts, creative ideas, getting ‘vibes’ from people, etc.), so it’s essential to be skilled at grounding ourselves, learning how to protect ourselves if we feel overwhelmed or overstimulated, and learning how to open ourselves consciously rather than not having any control over how open or closed we are.


The technique below has worked for me, and is similar to techniques that others have used (I modified instructions that I found in a number of places online), but it is no guarantee it will necessarily work for everyone. If you have any issues or any concerns, please consult a qualified expert.


The basic concept is that we use the sound vibration produced by saying a voiced 'TH' sound, as in the start of the word 'though', at a particular pitch. We will hold it for five minutes, breathing when needed, doing this process for three nights in a row, shortly before going to bed, because we are likely to get a slight headache.


Just as we can break a glass by singing at the right note, every vessel has a frequency at which it starts to resonate. Everyone's pineal gland is a slightly different size, but usually a pitch of 852 hz to 936 hz will be effective, which corresponds to a relatively high A-flat to B-flat. If these notes are too high to say comfortably (such as for men or anyone with a lower voice), we can use a lower octave. Just as a musical instrument produces higher harmonics, rather than just one single note, our voice is likely to contain a higher harmonic that will be at the right frequency.


Before starting, listen to samples online or on a piano of what these notes sound like, see what feels comfortable to sing, and try to feel if one note feels like a better fit than another. Some people may find that one note feels right, while others may have no idea. Don't worry about it, just go for it, if it doesn't seem to work we can always try another note another day, and there are other factors involved we'll talk about below.


The actual decalcification process:

  • Get into a calm, meditative state

  • Ten we set our intention (such as to decalcify your pineal gland, to connect deeply with spirit, or to connect with our higher self)

  • Say a voiced ‘th’ sound, like the start of the word ‘though', putting our tongue between our teeth, holding it as long as feels comfortable, and breathing when need be.

  • Raise our voice to around 852 hz to 936 hz, which is a fairly high A-flat or B-flat, or a lower octave of those notes.

  • Say it as loud as feels comfortable, so it produces as much sound vibration as possible but doesn't hurt. As the process continues, we may become more sensitive and need to become quieter

  • Focus on feeling the vibrations in the center of your head if possible, though if we mainly feel it in the front of our head that's ok.

  • Do the meditation for five minutes, three nights in a row.

  • We may get a headache (that’s why we do it in the evening).

  • Pay close attention to our experiences over the next several days, setting aside time to just 'be' with our mind calm, rather than constantly being busy.

Some people may have experiences similar to the ones I mentioned above; after several days I also found it somewhat overwhelming to be in large crowds because I felt I was picking up a lot of energy I wasn't used to. However, it got easier within a week and I haven't had any problems since then, but it might be an adjustment process in the beginning.


However, many other people won't feel anything different, which can happen for two main reasons. First of all, 40% of adults' pineal glands aren't actually calcified, so trying to decalcify it won't make any change. Meanwhile, just because a pineal gland isn't calcified doesn't guarantee that it can function fully. As with any energy center, the pineal gland needs a strong flow of energy from above or below. If the lower energy centers aren't open enough, or the crown center above the pineal gland, then the pineal gland won't get enough energy, like if we open the sprayer on the end of a hose, but the hose has a kink in it.


There is a huge amount to say about how to open the other energy centers in the body, but that's the most common reason why people don't feel any impact from decalcifying the pineal gland. Other factors include making sure get enough sunlight (so the pineal gland can produce DMT), making sure we aren't too distracted to notice subtle phenomena (such as being able to calm our minds and focusing deeply by having a strong meditative practice, and knowing how to stimulate the pineal gland using the technique below (starting at least one week after decalcifying the pineal gland).


Also, keep in mind that the pineal gland doesn't stay decalcified forever, because we may still be taking in fluoride or other chemicals that can make calcium deposits build up again. So, this decalcification process can be done every six months, or more often if we feel our pineal gland is not fully active (such as if we don’t feel connected with our creativity, insight, and higher self).

Pineal gland massage

After you have decalcified your pineal gland, there is a variation of this exercise that you can do to gently massage your pineal gland, to maintain a healthy and happy pineal gland, and perhaps trigger a release of the ‘spirit molecule’ DMT. It seems to be most effective if you’re lying down, and you may feel a trickle of liquid down your throat, which feels like ambrosia. The pineal gland can only generate so much DMT, so treat it as a precious resource to be used occasionally (perhaps once per week max), rather than every day.


The more sunshine you’re exposed to, the more melatonin and DMT you can produce. Large amounts of stress can make the pineal gland close up again, and by paying attention to any feelings of discomfirt in the center of your head, with practice you can feel when your pineal gland is open or closed. (If you’re not sure if your pineal gland is functional or not, it may be a good idea to do the decalcification steps a few times a year.)


After decalcifying your pineal gland, please wait at least a week before doing this exercise.

  • Lie down if possible, or else sit in a meditative position.

  • Get into a calm, meditative state.

  • Set your intention (such as to send love and gratitude to your pineal gland).

  • Say ‘mmmm’, drawn out for as long as you can.

  • Raise your voice to around 936hz, which is fairly high, around the frequency of many Tibetan singing bowls for example.

  • Your pineal gland has its own resonant frequency, so try different pitches until it feels right.

  • Focus on feeling the vibrations in the center of your head. It may help to open your jaw a bit as you say the ‘mmm’ sound, to open the channel to your ears.

  • You may want to start loud at first, but once you feel your pineal gland vibrating, reduce the volume (when open, the pineal gland is very sensitive to sound, and can quickly get over-stimulated).

  • Then feel the vibrations spread throughout your entire body, like you’re a tuning fork.

  • Continue for five minutes, or until you feel it’s too much.

  • As with any meditation, know when to transition from the strict technique of form, and just follow your intuition and be in formlessness, as that is the state where you are most receptive to what the pineal gland can receive.

If an have any thoughts or questions, please let us know!ant to pay attention to the sensations that may arise in the center of the head. For example, since a functional pineal gland can pick up energy from other people, it can take a while to get used to being around a lot of people, such as in a crowded public place, because the amount of sensations can be overwhelming at first. Or, if there is a lot of stress, or we're ignoring the quiet voice of our intuition/conscience, we may feel an uncomfortable sensation in the center of our head, at the pineal gland. Once we really pay attention to that quiet voice of wisdom, the pineal gland is likely to be calmer.
